All FMCSA motor carriers, brokers, and freight forwarders are required to hire a blanket agent service to file a BOC 3 form with the FMCSA in order to gain and keep an active authority. A BOC 3 is also required in order to reinstate an MC or FF number that has been revoked. Failure to keep an updated BOC 3 form on file with the FMCSA can result in a deactivated USDOT number.
The BOC 3 (Designation of Process Agents) form is filed to the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) to designate a process agent in every state you are authorized to travel within the United States.
